This presentation explores entrepreneurship and innovation as powerful alternative pathways in secondary education. It will provide practical tools to keep students engaged in the classroom. It highlights how entrepreneurial learning can complement traditional subjects, giving students real opportunities that exist across every industry. The session will also focus on the role of industry mentors in creating authentic learning experiences and provide strategies for schools to connect with mentors to boost s engagement, build transferable skills, and prepare young people for the future of work.
Presenter Bio
Maree Whiteley is the Youth Curriculum and Learning Coordinator at Bloom and the founder of The Purposeful Learning Community which supports educators with professional learning aligned to their values. With over 30 years of experience as a teacher, lecturer and consultant, including 14 years at AISWA, she has guided educators in designing socially purposeful curriculum and pedagogy. Maree specialises in innovative pedagogies, whole‑school planning and curriculum mapping that empower teachers to tackle global issues and foster critical thinking.
Michael Hillam is the Youth Pathways Coordinator at Bloom, where he designs and facilitates entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and leadership programs for students from K‑12. Drawing on his experience as a business founder and leader, he helps young people build creativity, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. He is also a certified UpSchool Teacher who is passionate about inspiring and equipping the next generation of changemakers.
