This interactive presentation showcases the Compass Engagement Program’s evidence-based case management model for supporting at-risk students. Using student voice to lead the narrative, the session will highlight how young people’s perspectives shape engagement strategies, transition planning, and community connection. Participants will explore practical frameworks, therapeutic approaches, and collaborative practices that improve outcomes. Delivered as an engaging presentation with discussion and reflection, this session is ideal for educators, coordinators, and service providers seeking to ‘centre’ student experience in their work.

Presenter Bio:

Kathryn Langridge is an Engagement and Transitions Coordinator with over 20 years of experience working in the Department of Education. She has dedicated her career to supporting students with special needs and mental health challenges, working closely with families to ensure inclusive outcomes. Kathryn is passionate about equity in education and firmly believes every young person deserves access to appropriate learning, training, and employment opportunities.

Megan Rayner is a qualified social worker and has worked for the Department of Education for over 5 years in the Compass Engagement Program. Megan has designed and delivered targeted, strengths-based programs that foster student engagement, strengthen family and community connections, and create pathways back into education and training. Megan brings a deep understanding of systemic and individual barriers to participation and works holistically with students to overcome these challenges. With expertise in case management, program development and leadership, Megan is committed to promoting inclusion, equity, and positive educational outcomes for young people.

Jackie Fraser has worked within Participation for 11 years, transitioning from Participation Coordinator supporting upper secondary students, to Engagement and Transitions Coordinator supporting lower secondary. Jackie has always felt drawn to supporting young people with the holistic approach provided in the Compass program. Jackie’s goal is to ensure education, health, safety and overall wellbeing for the youth and families she assists, providing support to achieve success.
