Intervention and Support Program Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Unit – WA Police

Presenter
Samuel Heys & Tanvi Shah - WA Police
Description:

This presentation will discuss WA’s approach to countering violent extremism, including WA’s Intervention and Support Program (WAISP) which helps people who may be at risk of harming others or themselves because of their radical or extreme views. The program focuses on prevention and early intervention supporting the individual to disengage from the path of violent extremism. It is free, voluntary and consent based. The Intervention and Support team works with participants to guide them towards positive behaviours before extremist views turn into violence. This, in turn, builds a stronger, safer, and more cohesive community. The presentation covers the development of tailored plans to connect young people with the right supports, opportunities, and in some cases mentors, to help them make safe and healthy choices.
