Forum Theatre, Interactive Demonstration for Successful Engagement of Young People

Presenter

Matt Stewart
Constable Care Foundation's Youth Choices

Description:

Based on the principle of any issue, any topic, any time, Rapid Response Theatre is comprised of a facilitated discussion around an audience nominated issue; a scene devised by the audience, then improvised by our professional acting team. This is followed by dialogue, scene replays, taking on audience suggestions, ideas and participation. This interactive role-play workshop allows participants to safely explore solutions to issues confronting their lives and communities. Rapid Response Theatre is one of Youth Choice’s many offerings available free of charge to secondary schools and youth centres in Perth and greater WA.

Presenter Bio:

Matt Stewart is Australia’s leading practitioner of Forum Theatre. He was co-founder of Darlinghurst Theatre Company and Milk Crate Theatre for Sydney’s homeless community. He has successfully adapted forum theatre for many companies, including multi award-winning Mind Blank Inc in Brisbane. He is the first person in the world to use film as a medium to deliver forum theatre to a greater audience, including regular sessions at Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Centre.

Constable Care utilises the skills of young, trained, professional actors to facilitate interactive, issues-based performances with young audiences across WA. Three of these actors will join Matt to facilitate audience engagement and understanding of the aims and goals of the program.
